Slide Scanning Services

Slide scanning services provide a bridge to the digital age by converting all of your irreplaceable slide memories into the digital format. Some say it is a matter of catching up with the 21st century technology standard. We live in a digital world and while analogue photography is still going strong, it is not current technology.

There are many advantages to going digital. First of all, digital is practical. With a digital camera you can see what you just photographed immediately-- there is no waiting. You can "save" the shot or erase it to conserve memory space. Memory is reusable and there is no film to develop. Just aim the camera, shoot, then flip the memory card into the computer and see it. If you have a photo printer, you can then print out the photograph. All that within one minute.

Being digital is less expensive. Although you have to buy a memory card, it is reusable after you download the photos you shoot into the computer. On the other hand, with a camera film, you have to buy the film, and then you have to pay to get the film developed. Film is a one-use-only item. It is very expensive and grossly inconvenient. Also, you won't know the quality of what you have just shot until you can see the final product-- the slide or the print. Again, this is grossly inconvenient. How do you know if you need to take another exposure if you can't see what you have done until the film is developed?

In slide scanning the slides are placed into a slide scanner. The scanner converts the slide into a digital picture on the computer. These are then downloaded onto a CD or DVD. Services may include manual color correction.

Currently, most business is with individuals wanting to convert their family slide collections into digital (35mm slides to digital). Sometimes this may include converting slides into digital pictures.

Home movies can also be converted. For home movies to DVD scanning, which is usually 8mm film to DVD, the film is scanned into a computer. A film editing program connects the film. It is then downloaded to a DVD. The results are generally great. Just make sure you have the order of your home movies clearly marked.

Converting slides into PowerPoint presentations is also a common service provided to professionals in the medical, dental and teaching fields. Many art firms, graphic designers, and graphic presentation programs such as PowerPoint are on the cutting edge of digital technology; they use only digital technology.

Scanning services also include other services. These are: slide scanning (which is usually 35mm slide scanning), negative scanning or film scanning (which is usually 35mm film scanning), and photo scanning services.

Slide scanning services, photo and film scanning services are practical services. Read more about this topic in other posts as they are added to this blog.
